I grew up in Port Credit, Ontario, now a part of The City of Mississauga. I graduated from Lorne Park Secondary School in 1964 and attended McMaster University in Hamilton, graduating in 1967 with a BA. I chose to go to Queen’s thereafter, and much to my delight obtained my law degree (L.L.B.) in 1970. While still academically inclined, I enrolled in Law at the London School of Economics in the U.K. I received a Master of Law Degree from that institution in 1971.
I married Diana Dea, also a Queen’s grad, in 1972. We have three grown children, Katherine, a Labour and Employment lawyer, Heather, a Buyer for Winners/ Homesense, and David, a founder of CEDAR Juice Inc., and formerly a healthcare consultant. Diana and I have been together for over forty years.
I became a Certified Specialist (C.S.) in Family Law in 1991 and have practiced nothing but for over 20 years. Convinced that the future lay in a different way of resolving disputes, I successfully applied for and received the accreditation of Cert Fam Arb ( Certified Family Arbitrator ) in 2013 from the Arbitration Institute of Ontario. This is the future, and one I have chosen to be part of.
